After breakfast we will start the day's adventures with a drive out to see the cute burrowing Magellanic penguins at the Otway Sound Penguin Colony. Penguins are fascinating for anybody but especially for children. Walk the boardwalks and observe and photograph the quaint behaviour of these interesting animals as they go to and fro between their burrows and the nearby beach.
When we have had our fill of penguins we will continue a short distance to Estancia Lolita. A real one of its kind estancia, this local farming family has been taking in sick, injured or orphaned animals from the local area and looking after them for a number of years. For many of the locals and especially the children in the city of Punta Arenas, this will be the only opportunity they get to observe some of the unusual wildlife that exists in their backyard.
Obviously the animals they have at a given time is uncertain but you can usually see armadillos, condors, pumas, Jeffrey's cat and more.
After some time spent wandering around this estancia, we will be continuing on towards Puerto Natales situated beside the waters of Last Hope Sound. After lunch in this quaint town with its souvenir shops and a good selection of cafes and restaurants, we will be heading north to the Milodon Cave. Made famous by Bruce Chatwin, this enormous cave is home to a life size replica of a giant prehistoric sloth, the Milodon.
Drive on north to the small outpost town of Cerro Castillo and the comfortable and family run Hosteria el Pionero. With its large main house reminiscent of an English country home staying here feels like a weekend with friends. The spacious light filled rooms are cosy and the main rooms are welcoming with wood floors and fires to relax in front of.
Night in twin share accommodation or family rooms if you prefer. All meals included (wine/drinks available at extra cost).
Camping option: The same as above with accommodation at Hosteria el Pionero.

After breakfast, we will be driving into Torres del Paine to enjoy a full day exploring the magnificent scenery and wildlife opportunities in the area.
Options include hikes to nearby waterfalls and mountain lookouts, a stroll through the summer breeding grounds for guanaco or general wildlife spotting activites in the vicinity. We can also stop at the unusual Laguna Amarga (bitter lake) with its salt encrusted lakeshores and contrastingly blue waters.
Other activities include a walk to the Salto Grande waterfall, time spent on the lakeshores of Laguna Azul and hunting for Calafate berries on the pampas and Patagonian scrublands.
The scenery today is quite spectacular and includes monstrous granite peaks, crystal clear turquoise lakes, beautiful valleys and waterfalls to say nothing of the exotic wildlife in the area.
Extra possibilities that might amuse the kids include fishing in the salmon-stocked waters of the Serrano River or horse riding. Note riding is not included in the trip price.
After our full day we will be driving to Grey Lake and the very comfortable Hosteria Lago Grey. This is a beautiful, 4* hotel with dramatic views of the nearby glacier.
Hotel facilities include a restaurant that serves a variety of local and international food, bar/lounge area and en suite rooms.
All meals included (wine/drinks available at extra cost).
Camping Option: Activities as above. After our full day we will be setting up camp lakeside at Camping Pehoe. Albeit beside the gravel road through the Park, this is one of the prettiest sites in the area with great facilities for families. The camp pitches are well spaced and some have shelter. There is indoor dining available, fire pits for outdoor cookouts, bathrooms and hot showers.
Great walks in the vicinity of the campsite and incredible lake and mountain views.
Night Camping and roasting marshmallows on the fire. All meals included with wine at dinner.

After breakfast, we will be walking down to the nearby Lake beach and boarding the Grey II boat which will take us across the normally ice-choked lake towards the face of Grey Glacier.
This is an up close and personal encounter with a vertical tower of ice. A unique experience and something for the kids to share with their class mates when they return home.
After we return to the boat dock we will enjoy a picnic in a suitably pretty location and we will spend the remainder of the day touring the area. We will visit the Park Administration centre with its relief map of the Park and local information, undertake some short hikes and look for wildlife.
Late afternoon return to Puerto Natales for a night in the comfortable Hotel Weskar. This hotel occupies a beautiful position overlooking Last Hope Sound. Night spent in comfortable en suite rooms with dinner in one of the town's many fine restaurants.
All meals included today (wine/drinks available at extra cost).
Camping option: Activities as above with accommodation in the comfortable, cute Hostel Amerindia. Meals included as above.
