Estancia Stays
An estancia is a farm or ranch that raises either cattle or sheep. The entire area of Patagonia is essentially a number of estancias strung together between the Pacific Ocean in the west and the Atlantic ocean in the east. In fact, the Torres del Paine National Park was an estancia before it became a National Park.
We were the first company to offer estancia-based accommodation in the area with the introduction of our Estancia Ride where clients ride from ranch to ranch. In fact, we are very proud to have been instrumental in the development of some of the local estancias for tourism and are still the experts when it comes to this form of agrotourism in the area.
For all you wannabe cowboys and cowgirls, we offer the opportunity to live the life of a gaucho as you ride out with the cowboys of the south into the immense landscapes of Patagonia and elsewhere. Whether you want to try your hand at polo or get away from it all and camp under the southern stars we can help. Horse riding among the legendary Patagonian landscapes gives you a deeper connection to the land, the people and the culture and we highly recommend including some riding in your Patagonian adventure.
Organising 10 day horse riding expeditions is how we started out over 25 years ago with our flagship and pioneering Torres del Paine Glacier Ride and riding remains very close to our hearts at BlueGreen.
As part of our 25 year celebration of operating trips in the region we relaunched our Glacier & Estancia Rides with fresh new itineraries, for more information refer to Riding Activity.
Guided by an expert Chilean guide and accompanied by baqueanos, BlueGreen Adventures will take you deep into this riders’ paradise away from the main trails and into the Patagonian back country.
Today, in addition to running these longer horse rides in and around Torres del Paine we work with a handful of equally passionate and innovative riding partners in Patagonia and elsewhere in Chile and Argentina.
We can also arrange stays at carefully selected estancias (ranches) that exist in the Patagonia region and further afield in Argentina, including Buenos Aires.
Horse riding can be a great addition to a custom itinerary and we can make suggestions for families, couples or solo travellers according to your riding experience, age and preference.

Summary
“This landscape of blue, green and silver, of granite spires, glaciers, lakes, mountains and daisy-filled meadows, robs you of words. I quote Gerard Manley Hopkins to myself, the nearest I can get to doing justice to the view beyond the tent’s opening flap: “The world is charged with the grandeur of God…” – words that could have been written for this place”. Written by Kate Kellaway from the UK Observer who joined and reviewed this ride back in 2013.
Today with a few tweaks for its relaunch we are excited to continue offering our landmark Glacier Ride offering fast paced and challenging riding on fit Criollo horses in a truly magnificent setting. We guarantee no pony trekking! *If you prefer not to camp, see our equally stand out Estancia Ride.

Combine chukkhas with an Argentine ranch experience as you learn this exhilarating sport from the experts
Summary
Argentina continues to be at the forefront of polo. The endless pampas produce some of the worlds finest polo players and ponies. The horses are bred for speed, stamina and agility, trained on Estancias by skilled stable hands. For experienced riders, polo combines the thrill of high speed horsemanship with the elegance and strategic finesse of a team sport and is highly recommended during your visit. Spend your mornings practicing your swing and learning the art of the game before an afternoon spent pool-side while juicy Argentine beef roasts on the burning embers nearby.
