Hosteria el Pionero is a small family run boutique -style hotel that offers unique accommodation in an historic country home.
Available exclusively through BlueGreen Adventures it is situated in the small outpost town of Cerro Castillo close to the border with Argentina it is approximately 284 km from el Calafate, 61 km from Puerto Natales and 60 km from Torres del Paine National Park.
Its privileged location directly on the route between Torres del Paine and southern Argentina makes it a convenient stopover for those wanting to enjoy the scenic and cultural delights of the area.
With just 10 bedrooms in the main house the hosteria has the feel of a private country home with colourful interiors, light spacious rooms and period features such as wood floors, high ceilings and cosy fire places.
In our view, el Pionero is one of the most attractive and unique hotels in the area. The building itself which looks like an English villa is surrounded by tall cypress trees as protection from the sometimes fierce Patagonian winds. The back drop is the immense pampas that make Patagonia justly famous and the huge skies beyond. To the east are the jagged peaks of the southern Andes, a natural barrier between Chile and Argentina.
In addition to enjoying locally produced meat and home grown produce guests can witness traditional celebrations such as rodeos and horsemanship demonstrations.

Accommodation comprises of 10 bedrooms in the main house. All of them have private bathrooms and are centrally heated as follows: 1 single, 4 twins, 2 standard doubles and 2 superior doubles with fire places.
In addition, for overflow guests and large groups there is an annexe attached with capacity for 20 guests distributed among 7 bedrooms, each of them with private bathroom.
Facilities include: Spacious and comfortable living areas, restaurant, fireside bar, pleasant outdoor quincho where guests can enjoy tasty Patagonian lamb barbeques and pretty gardens where it is possible to find a good spot to relax or read.

Day 1: Arrive into Puerto Natales. Drive to the Milodon Cave made famous by Bruce Chatwin and enjoy short hikes. Continue to el Pionero. Welcome asado.
Day 2: Transfer to the beautiful Laguna Verde for the hike into the Park via the beautiful Sierra del Toro. Meet transfer vehicle for the drive to Lake and Glacier Grey. Return to Pionero. All meals included.
Day 3: Transfer to Las Torres for the challenging and world class hike to the base of the Towers. Continue on to Estancia Tercera for the night. All meals included.
Day 4: Full day horse riding into the surrounding hills in the vicinity of the Estancia. Alternatively hike up into the canyons to spot condors. Return to Puerto Natales. Breakfast and lunch included.
