This 15 mile trek is considered more challenging owing to the elevation of around 2,300 feet. Generally speaking it takes 8 to 9 hours to complete. The first part of the trail takes you on a steep ascent up to a natural viewpoint of the De las Vueltas river and flat valley. From there you continue along the Del Salto stream enter the valley towards Mount Fitzroy as the forests become thicker and you reach a natural rocky viewpoint showing the Fitzroy range. You will pass Poincenot Base Camp (the most popular campsite in the Park) and cross the Blanco river before a steep, rocky ascent of around 400 metres to arrive at Laguna de los Tres (this last part of the trail can take over an hour). Night Hotel Kau Yatun in a superior roomActive small group tour to Moreno Glacier with Estancia lunch and Boat trip. Night Hotel Glaciar Sur Pioneros Tour, regular tour with collection from hotel, English speaking guide, transfers, navigation, estancia lunch and guided tour of Moreno Glacier walkways.Today’s journey begins on the old rancher’s way that takes us on a dirt road out of el Calafate heading deep into the Andes mountains. Passing by Roca Lake we will arrive at an historic ranch that is owned by the same family that first settled these lands, land that eventually became Los Glaciares National Park.
After a delicious meal of grilled lamb and home produced salad at the estancia we will join a boat navigation through the Brazo Rico and the south of Lake Argentino.
This navigation will give us awesome views of the Moreno Glacier and Adriana face. We will disembark the vessel on Monedas beach which can only be accessed by small craft. From here we will trek into the woods which have remained unchanged for centuries; due to its remote location these woods are home to wild horses that have been able to breed uninterrupted in the area after it was declared a National Park.
The trail takes us through ancient forests as we start to glimpse the Moreno Glacier through the trees, a sight that is not soon forgotten. We then descend to a beach below where we will have time to enjoy this privileged landscape enjoyed by only a few.
We will once again board the boat before navigating in front of the glacier observing the ice slides and the face of the glacier with the Magallanes peninsula forming a natural dam. The boat takes us on to Baja las Sombras pier and from here we will be transferred to the Moreno Glacier walkways where we can enjoy the glacier from various angles late in the day, when most of the visitors have left.
