Yoga Immersion
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Puerto Natales. Yoga Intro. Hike. Night Hotel
This trip starts in the quaint waterside town of Puerto Natales. You will start by meeting your guide at the BlueGreen Adventures office at approximately 10.00 hours before taking a private transfer out of town to the beautifully situated yoga dome. Meet your yoga instructor Susanne and enjoy tea and a briefing with spectacular mountain and water views.

We will start with an introduction to Hatha Yoga: In an effort to simplify and clarify the complex philosophies and teachings of yoga, Swami Vishnu-Devananda summarized the wisdom of yoga in 5 principles.

These principles show the way to developing physical and mental health as well as spiritual growth. The 5 points are: 1. Proper Exercise (Asanas), 2. Proper Breathing (Pranayama), 3. Proper Relaxation (Savasana), 4. Proper Diet (vegetarian) and 5. Positive Thinking (Vedanta) and Meditation (Dhyana). After discussing these points, Susanne will get you started on 1.5 hours of yoga practice and poses.

After our yoga session, we will return to Puerto Natales for lunch before driving north to visit the Milodon Cave for an afternoon hike in the area with its historic forests, ancient caves and beautiful mountain views.

Return to Puerto Natales for a night at the cute, colourful Hostel Amerindia situated in the centre of Puerto Natales and offering a warm, Patagonian welcome, comfortable, pretty rooms and a legendary cafeteria serving the best chocolate cakes in the area.

Dinner at a local restaurant included (wine/drinks available at extra cost).

Day 2: Morning yoga. Torres del Paine. Hike. Hotel.
After an early 6.30 start we transfer to the yoga dome (15 minutes) for Namaste and morning warm up. Two hours of yoga instruction before transferring back to hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, we will drive north to the dramatic renowned National Park known as Torres del Paine.

Our drive takes us across the pampas that characterize this area before we head west around the shores of Lago Sarmiento. We will wind our way along this very pretty road that take us past the turquoise waters of the lake and onto the land belonging to Estancia Lazo. Situated in this pristine and rarely visited area beside the tranquil waters of Laguna Verde this working estancia and very pretty hosteria is the starting point for today's hike - an inspirational introduction to the landscapes in the area.

After enjoying some tea or coffee in the hosteria, we will pack our day packs and head out along the shores of the lake through ancient southern beech forests and through grassy valleys towards the Sierra del Toro. This is a great introductory hike with fairly flat terrain, soft grassy trails and astounding mountain and lake views which get more dramatic at every turn. After a few hours hiking we will reach the summit of the mountain with far reaching views across this southern landscape crammed with more than its fair share of fast flowing rivers and fjords, fields of ice, snow capped granite peaks and iceberg choked lakes. After some time enjoying the views, we will descend the scree slope to the pampas below.

We will meet our driver and vehicle for the drive to Lake and Glacier Grey. We will cross the swinging footbridge and walk through the forests to Grey Beach. The view that greets us is memorable - the floating icebergs that have calved off the nearby glacier form a surreal contrast against the grey waters of the lake. Grey Glacier protrudes off the southern ice field and is quite simply a wonder of nature. Measuring 28km in length and covering a total surface area of 270 square km with its frozen walls of crystalline ice towering almost 35 metres high, it never ceases to impress.

After our walk on Grey Beach we will transfer the short distance to the upscale and very comfortable Hosteria Lago Grey situated in its enviable position overlooking the lake and glacier.

All meals included (wine/drinks available at extra cost).

Day 3: Challenging hike or Zodiac trip. Night Hotel
After breakfast in the hotel dining room we can choose from either the challenging hike to the base of the Towers (approximately 7-8 hours walking with steep inclines at the outset) or we can take a zodiac ride out of Torres del Paine through Bernardo O'Higgins to Puerto Natales.

Towers Hike:
This famous hike is one of Paine's classic trails. It is a challenging hike but worthwhile as we hike to the base of the Towers are which the Park is named. This is a round trip hike where we will walk up into the Ascending Valey and through beautiful old growth forests to a rock moraine field beneath the mountains. From here its a clamber over rocks with some steep sections before we reach the top with incredible views of the granite Towers, its hanging glaciers and a basin of emerald green melt waters at the base.

Zodiac ride:
Boarding our zodiac at the Serrano River we will follow the twists and turns of the Serrano River as it curves down river meeting up with other rivers and tributaries of varying colours along the way. We will be travelling through the Bernardo O'Higgins National Park. Shared by the region of Magallanes and Aysen, this is the largest National Park in Chile and one of the five most expansive in the world (over 3 million hectares). With access only via the water or across the mountains or the southern ice field itself, it remains a remote and pristine corner of our planet. It also contains the third largest mass of ice on earth after Antarctica and Greenland.

On arrival at Puerto Toro, we switch from the small zodiac to a larger boat that will take us back to Puerto Natales stopping at the unique waterside Estancia Perales for a Patagonian lamb feast on the way.

After our full day's hike or zodiac ride, we will arrive back into  Puerto Natales for tea and either an energizing yoga session or a relaxing hot stone massage at the yoga dome with Susanne.

Evening dinner in one of the town's many excellent restaurants.

All meals included (wine/drinks available at extra cost).
